The Hudson Valley Community College women’s basketball team (14-6) is ranked third in the Region III/Division III Coaches Poll. The Vikings went on an eleven-game win streak before having it snapped against second-ranked Mohawk Valley Community College.
Head Coach Gabrielle Doemel is especially encouraged by the women’s play as of late, commenting, “The team is at a point of understanding how to prepare and execute as a cohesive group. We have a well-balanced attack where everyone contributes in her own way. Right now, we want to continue playing hard and take one game at a time.”
As a team, Hudson Valley is ranked third in scoring defense, allowing only 53.2 points per game. The Vikings are led by Stacey Salisbury (Schenectady/Schenectady) and Erica Houle (Shaker/Latham). Salisbury is averaging a double-double, scoring 16.2 points per game and 10.8 rebounds. Houle is one of the premier shooters in the region, averaging 13.5 points per game, and is currently ranked fourth in 3-point field goal percentage at 38.3%.
The Vikings’ next home game is against Delhi College of Technology on Saturday, Feb. 12 at 1 p.m.
